Edith Karlson, who, characteristically of the younger generation of sculptors, utilises a great deal of mould-making, can also successfully work with traditional modelling. In this sculptural bust, she has empathetically and truthfully captured the constantly changing facial expressions and unstoppable liveliness of the apple of her eye and ultimate spark, her son Nikolai. We are standing face to face with a beautiful big-eyed boy with the hint of a possible future silky moustache nestled between nose and mouth. Next to the bust modelled by Edith, Kolja has smuggled his favourite pieces – the monstrously shaped spiky fish heads.
