Valeri Vinogradov

Untitled

Dateerimata

Untitled and undated, yet acknowledged by the artist as his own, this work –unexpectedly combining strangely black-and-white, cloud-like surfaces – stands out as unusual. Thoroughly irrational, it feels like the kind of piece Valeri himself might not fully trust, as it lacks a clear sense of balance or harmony. This is precisely what earned it a place in our exhibition: this slightly outcast work provides a rare glimpse into the artist’s state of mind, one that hesitated to paint over the image. Perhaps the strong pre-existing elements in the piece – the arched section protruding from the surface and the textured areas of color – would have imposed too rigidly on any new solution. Who can say? Yet the painting is undeniably intriguing and, in its solitude, quietly beautiful.
