Young Dog in Artist’s Skin

2010/2016

Known as a virtuoso drawer, Maria-Kristiina Ulas has also been making funny “toys” for more than a decade – jumping jacks usually hanging from the ceiling of the exhibition space. “In the 90s, I made some small animal and human shaped jumping jacks, which I exhibited at the Haus Gallery in 2010. Young Dog in Artist’s Skin is inspired by James Joyce’s novel, Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, El Lissitzky’s self-portrait, also known as Self-Portrait of the Artist as a Monkey-Hand, and my own awesome young dog at the time.”
