Vladimir Yankilevsky
Triptych N 26. Megapolis. Demons
2012

The triptych titled after Dostoevsky’s Demons (in Russian, Бесы/Демоны) deviates from the classic Yankilevsky triptych structure. Instead of a central panel that enables a cosmic dialogue and links the side panels, it presents mutated figures of the metropolis, flanked by threatening machinery encoded in symbols. The triptych is numbered twenty-six. For a moment, one might feel compelled to delve into the mysticism of numbers, but there is no need – everything is already clear.
