Vladimir Yankilevsky

From the Series Woman by the Sea

1981/1999

A distinct theme in Yankilevsky’s work is his depictions of women, ranging from the female torsos on the left panels of many of his triptychs, through Anatomy of Feelings, to the lascivious witches in Mutants. The pastels and screen prints from the series Woman by the Sea, presented in our exhibition, are among the most striking and beautiful pieces in Yankilevsky’s oeuvre. In the screen prints, the addition of heads to the depiction of the female body – executed in a way uniquely characteristic of Yankilevsky – results in true art historical treasures.
