Anne Rudanovski

Alphabet Before and After

The symbolic shapes hidden in the abstract language of Anne Rudanovski’s origami reflect subconscious feelings and ideas. She transforms them into shapes that each signify a pre-linguistic state of mind. With mastery of origami techniques and the use of delicate materials, she brings captivating life to her paper sculptures. As a material, paper offers a collective means of thought and expression that exists outside verbal-linguistic structures – forms that construct meaning through folding. In her works presented at the Triennial, the artist employs mingeishi – an ultra-thin Japanese paper crafted from the fibres of various plants. According to the artist, this paper offers a distinct approach to handling and manipulation, enabling techniques not achievable with conventional papers.
