Gintautas Trimakas

For Trimakas, photography is an act – a form of communication – far more than just a medium for producing images. Light is the foundation of his artistic practice, functioning both as a medium and as a subject itself. In recent years, Trimakas has moved away from using a camera, instead creating works through the cyanotype process – a slow-reacting photographic printing method sensitive to sunlight.

In the works exhibited, Trimakas allows nature to do the drawing – through the agency of light on chemically treated paper. The pieces presented at the Triennial serve as records of light (Color Search) or colour (Photo-Documentation, Unicates). The development process resists conventional methods of image-making, and encourages a deeper attunement to the surrounding environment.
