Karl Joonas Alamaa

Karl Joonas Alamaa (b. 2000) is an artist and designer who studied fashion design at the Estonian Academy of Arts and received a master’s degree in costume design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. In his work, he is interested in everyday life and memories, as well as the relationships between power, society, and the individual. His practice is characterised by interviewing, working with archival materials, and an emphasis on collectivity and collaboration. He has received the Mathilde Horlait-Dapsens Prize, the JAT Prize, and the Eduard Wiiralt Scholarship, while also being nominated for the Silver Needle Award in 2021 and 2023.
