Held in Pieces
2026
Created in collaboration with Jake Sheperd and Yvette Bathgate, the installation began with the accidental discovery of slices of apple-tree wood. On the one hand, the thin wooden discs resemble MRI scans that record cross-sections of the body at close intervals. On the other, the sculpture, threaded together like a vascular system, evokes a skeleton assembled from fossils. One may hope that all the parts originate from a single organism, or that they have at least been assembled correctly – yet it can never truly come to life again.
