An Apple Tree On Wheels

2026

For the third summer in a row, a small community garden has been active in the inner courtyard of the Lasnamäe Pavilion, with Maria Kapajeva – who lives nearby – also taking part in its activities. As the final work in the exhibition, she planted an apple tree of the variety Red Devil in a red planter box placed in the courtyard. This young organism, full of potential and only beginning to grow and bear fruit, will remain here only temporarily, which is why the planter has wheels attached to it. After the exhibition, the artist plans to replant the tree in the garden of her parents’ summer house.

The apple tree came with the following description: An autumn variety. The tree bears dark red, medium-sized sweet fruits. Very productive. The flesh is dense, firm, and spicy, with pinkish-red flesh and juice, and a flavour reminiscent of strawberries. Ripens in September. Bears fruit every year. Disease resistant. Self-pollinating. A beautiful tree with a small crown.
