Silva Eher
Writer
2000
Eher’s works, distinguished by a blue and ochre-toned palette, showcase abstract compositions populated by figures that are intriguingly impersonal in the most compelling way. These characters – whether engaged in writing, kneeling, or praying – encourage the viewer to connect with them. Stripped of individual identity, each figure becomes a universal symbol, inviting interpretation through the viewer’s personal experiences and reflections.
When Eher presented her solo exhibition at Vaal Gallery in 1993, she reflected on her work with these words: “In my current creations, I have aimed for simplicity, striving to omit anything superfluous. I hope viewers will see for themselves the difference between my earlier works and those I am creating now. My sole wish is that these works bring people the calm, balance, and peace of mind so needed in these turbulent times.”
Looking back, it is clear that while minimalist and concise compositions were certainly part of Eher’s oeuvre, she did not strictly confine herself to them.
