Brit Kikas
Corpora prima
2020
This body of work consists of black-and-white photographs enlarged in a darkroom and reflects on a “good”, “correct” or “pure” body. Brit Kikas’ work features half-naked models in ambivalent poses. Depending on the viewer’s perspective the work could be seen as both childish play or an obscenity. Where exactly is the line between these two? When does innocent curiosity become an evil obtrusion? And why is it that these amateur-like black-and-white photographs could make you feel like a peeping Tom, whereas advertisements showing young girls scantily dressed, printed in newspapers, may seem perfectly normal?
