Solar System I & Solar System II

In Robin’s earlier panel paintings in oil there was still something that could be called traditional painting, but now his backgrounds and characters are clearly contoured, making them look almost like cartoons. The scattered patches of paint are replaced by unambiguous and firmly framed shapes, with a thin yet bold black line surrounding the bright unmixed colours. And of course, the dimensions of the picture. Large canvases teeming with characters have really brought Robin’s work into the limelight in the second half of the past decade.
