“Young mothers who had been sitting indoors stopped breastfeeding their babies, and the elderly, who had already headed to bed, suddenly awoke from their slumber with wonder and excitement on their faces – as though they were young again, ready to start their lives all over. Children too were intently listening for the distant sounds and even fathers, although frowning in a matter-of-fact manner, could not ignore the haunting melodies.”
