Urmas Viik

Urmas Viik is an interdisciplinary artist and book designer based in Tallinn. He graduated in graphic arts from the Estonian Academy of Arts, and worked as a freelance artist thereafter. Since 2005, he has been a professor and head of the Graphics Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Viik has illustrated about 30 children’s books and held solo and group exhibitions at national and international venues, including the Bratislava Biennial Illustration or the Picture book quadrennial in Riga. During the last years, Viik has also been involved in cross-media project Brave bunch in India, which has a focus on a WWII Polish children refugee camp in India. He was included on the 2010 IBBY Honour List, and has received several awards at annual illustration competitions.
