Ten Ways Not to Become the Invisible Woman After 40
2020
While researching for the exhibition, Maria Kapajeva found an article on the Internet entitled 10 Ways Not to Become Invisible After 40. The guidelines confirmed the stereotypical perception that women’s own modesty is to blame, and suggested, among other things, speaking up, finding more male friends and wearing dresses more often. During an artist residency at the Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art in Poland, Kapajeva decided to test these recommendations. In this video work, we see the artist wearing a green so-called invisible costume, increasing her self-confidence according to the instructions and then testing her visibility in a public space.
