An Apple Tree, Not Mine

At her grandfather’s home in the village of Zagrivye, beyond Narva, there was an orchard of apple trees that Maria Kapajeva – who attended art school as a child – drew again and again. She was convinced that she had kept those drawings and hoped to find at least one object that could connect this story and the exhibition to the now inaccessible place, but the search proved fruitless. To compensate for this loss, she spent a year drawing different apple trees during her travels and here in Lasnamäe. Seventeen apple trees are displayed throughout the exhibition, all drawn by Maria, yet none of them is truly her own.
