Elin Kard
Elin Kard (1972) studied at the Tallinn Light Industry Technical School in 1995–1997, then leather design in 1996–2000 (BA) and art in 2000–2003 (MA) at the Estonian Academy of Arts. She was active as an artist in 1998–2006; her most recent exhibition, Violence and Propaganda was held together with Marco Laimre, Marko Mäetamm and Andres Tali at Tallinn Art Hall.
Elin Kard has a long experience in writing about art. In 2003–2009 she published analytical and critical texts about art in her blog under the pseudonym of Elena Šmakova. She has also written articles for the Estonian art media and prepared exhibition reviews and press releases for Hobusepea Gallery and Draakon Gallery, where she is the gallerist since 2003. Kard has also worked as a project manager at the Estonian Centre of Contemporary Art and as an associate professor, lecturer and dean at the Estonian Academy of Arts. From 2013 to 2019 she was as the Vice-President of the Estonian Artists’ Association. Since 2019 she is the President of the Estonian Artists’ Association.
