Johannes Luik

Johannes Luik was born in Tartu. In 2019 he acquired his BA in the Department of Installation and Sculpture at the Estonian Academy of Arts. In 2021 he received a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the LUCA School of Arts in Belgium. As a sculptor and installation artist, Luik is interested in the materiality of (objects) and the parameters that describe the properties of the physical world, such as material, texture, mass, volume and dimensionality. He is interested in the relation of (abstract) objects to three-dimensional architectural space and the functional relation of architectural details to these objects. Luik says: “This kind of intervention indicates the potential of the room to look different or be used differently. As an installation artist, this turns the space into the material that can be activated to create different ways of experiencing and remembering.” In 2018 and 2019 he was awarded the Young Sculptor Award, and in 2020, he received the Adamson Eric Scholarship.
