Yaniya Mikhalina
Yaniya Mikhalina is a Volga Tatar research-based artist with Muslim roots working across postcolonial temporalities. She was born in Qazan, Tatarstan and lives in Oslo, Norway. She is disturbed by the ways the reality of the gaze is constructed, represented and normalized within documentary contexts. Her work seeks to assist trans-local, -linguistic and psychic proximities and solidarity through the means of moving images, voices, text, and pleasure. She is a PhD candidate at the Trondheim Art Academy with a project titled The a-topias of colonial madness: Feminist-indigenous cosmologies.
